Talk about a dead sleep!
When hummingbirds nod out for the night, they go into a hibernation-type stage called torpor. Each night the little birdies conserve their energy by slowing down their metabolism, heartbeat and respiration rate; usually by hanging upside-down on a tree branch.
When it’s time for them to wake up, it can take them up to an hour! During this time you may hear our feathered friends making little noises which sound like snoring. It’s because they are taking in more oxygen.
